The Defence Ministry, in a statement yesterday, said among the the things that have been procured were adult and children’s life jackets, umbrellas and other necessities, in addition to cleaning items such as shovels, rubber boots and brushes for use during the post-flood period.

“In March, the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) also received the procurement of disaster operation mobility equipment for the operation of humanitarian assistance and disaster relief worth RM9.97 million.

“Among the assets received were the rubber inflatable boat complete with outboard motor, assault boat aluminum “Vee” bottom complete with outboard motor, trailer boat, HADR boat carrier and one tonne 4×4 Truck fitted for Radio,” read the statement.

The ministry said as of now, a total of 995 officers and 16,094 members of other various ranks from the three MAF service branches — Army, Royal Malaysian Navy and Royal Malaysian Air Force — throughout the country are ready to face all eventualities.

The Defence Ministry said among the areas currently receiving high rainfall and experiencing floods are in Kelantan, Terengganu, Selangor and Perak.

In this regard, it said MAF has mobilised assistance teams, including rescue and evacuation of flood victims, and providing assistance at relief centres.

“At the same time, the Defence Ministry has also arranged for the forward medical team to assist the Health Ministry with health check-ups,” the statement said.
