MB: Modern infrastructure aside, state focused on human capital, education development

SHAH ALAM, Dec 31 — Selangor is not only focused on being a developed state with modern structures and facilities that cater to its people, but is committed to developing its human capital and education.

This was the commitment given by Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari at the Darul Ehsan Berselawat 3.0 programme to celebrate the ushering of the new year.

Speaking at the event, Amirudin said the organisation of beneficial programmes like this is crucial to inculcate good values among the rakyat.

“No doubt, this programme is part of the state government’s efforts to uplift the hearts and spirits of the people in Selangor,” he said at the Shah Alam Stadium carnival compound, here, today.

“We don’t just want to build grand, luxurious buildings or the most modern facilities; we also want to ‘build’ individuals so that their souls are uplifted, and ensure education is imparted in the right manner, which will ultimately lead to good behaviour.”

Addressing the crowd of thousands, Amirudin recounted his meeting with former Egypt Grand Mufti Sheikh Ali Gomaa during his visit to the transcontinental country in October, when the latter cited a hadith that encourages the people to always do good.

He stressed the importance for the public to always act courteously when communicating with another person.

“Sheikh Ali told a story of an Israeli sex worker who gave drink to a thirsty dog. Her good deeds ensured her a place in heaven, despite her being an Israeli and involved in prostitution.

“The lesson here is that we must always be kind to our environment and among humans, without forgetting your relationship with Allah,” he said.

Amirudin said the promotion of good values like these will be the focus of the state government next year.

The Gombak MP said among other things, this will be done via the organisation of similar dhikr programmes like today throughout the year.

“We will visit every district and fill these programmes with beneficial activities. We will do it every month.

“Hopefully, through our prayers and salawat, it will bring prosperity and peace to this state and our country, and free our fellow Muslims in Palestine from the ongoing war.”
