No more fishing in PJ public parks other than Kelana Jaya

SHAH ALAM, Dec 31 — Beginning tomorrow, the public will not be allowed to fish in parks under the Petaling Jaya City Council’s (MBPJ) administration, barring Taman Bandaran Kelana Jaya.

The local authority said this in a notice issued recently, adding that the ban, which takes effect on January 1, is in line with MBPJ’s Parks By-Laws 2005.

It added that fishers who plan to fish at the Taman Bandaran Kelana Jaya must also obtain a fishing permit from the council’s Landscape Department.

They will be charged a monthly fee of RM30 for each fishing rod or RM240 annual fee.

“Fishing time is restricted to Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, between 7am and 7pm,” it said in a post on Facebook.

MBPJ said the use of fishing equipment that can endanger the safety of park visitors are also strictly prohibited.

According to MBPJ’s website, Taman Bandaran Kelana Jaya is the largest park in Petaling Jaya and is also one of the most well known.

It consists of seven lakes, with extensive jogging tracks, and is equipped with various facilities like exercises equipments and skate park.
