UNSC urged to vote in favour of immediate ceasefire in Gaza

RAMALLAH, Dec 8 — The Palestinian Presidency has called on all council members of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to vote in favour of a resolution demanding an immediate ceasefire and the protection of civilians in Gaza, based Article 99 of the United Nations Charter.

The Presidency emphasised that the time has come for the adoption of this resolution to halt the ongoing genocidal war inflicted upon the Palestinian people by the Israeli occupation forces in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, according to Palestinian news agency WAFA.

The Presidency urged the prompt delivery of urgent humanitarian aid, citing intentional hindrances imposed by the Israeli occupation authorities, resulting in a catastrophic situation particularly in the Gaza Strip.

It also for the UNSC to dispatch a delegation to assess the humanitarian catastrophe in the Gaza Strip and to provide firsthand insight into the tragic toll of the Israeli aggression, WAFA reported.

The UNSC will meet on Friday to discuss a ceasefire in Gaza after UN Secretary-General Antonio Gutteres invoked Article 99 on Wednesday. The call that has received widespread support from nations across the globe.
