A year of ups: MB reflects on Selangor’s many successes in 2023

By Danial Dzulkifly

SHAH ALAM, Jan 1 — As the New Year begins, the Selangor government under the leadership of Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari celebrates the accomplishments of the past year and looks forward to building upon these successes in 2024.

Taking to social media site X, Amirudin reflected on the various milestones achieved by the state administration in 2023, expressing gratitude to all those involved and setting an optimistic vision for next year.

“Alhamdulillah, 2023 has been a year of numerous milestones and progress for Selangor, enhancing the well-being of our residents.

“We’ve achieved a remarkable revenue collection of RM2.7 billion as of December 31, 2023, surpassing our target. This success is a testament to our collective effort. Congratulations to everyone involved!” he said today.

The RM2.7 billion revenue this year is a staggering 35 per cent higher than the state’s initial target of RM2 billion.

The Sungai Tua assemblymen and Gombak MP also congratulated Selangorians for giving their mandate to the Unity Government coalition to continue leading the state following the conclusion of the state election last year.

“The people of Selangor have chosen a track record of achievements over shallow and narrow political rhetoric.

“God willing, I hope that in 2024, we can instil a collective resolve to be even better,’’ he said.

Last night, during the Darul Ehsan Berselawat 3.0 programme to welcome the New Year, Amirudin highlighted the importance of such events in fostering positive values among the public, and that the government is committed to developing its human capital and education.

“No doubt, this programme is part of the state government’s efforts to uplift the hearts and spirits of the people in Selangor,” he had said at the Shah Alam Stadium carnival compound yesterday.

“We don’t just want to build grand, luxurious buildings or the most modern facilities; we also want to ‘build’ individuals so that their souls are uplifted, and ensure education is imparted in the right manner, which will ultimately lead to good behaviour.”

In his post today, Amirudin also reiterated his commitment to initiatives that directly benefit the residents of Selangor.

These include major projects under the First Selangor Plan (RS-1) like the Integrated Development Region in South Selangor (Idriss), Sabak Bernam Development Area (Sabda), Selangor Maritime Gateway (SMG), and development of the Pulau Carey port.

Amirudin also underlined the importance of people-centric programmes such as Jelajah Ehsan Rahmah (JER), Selangor Saring, and Skim Insurans Am Selangor, along with numerous other initiatives designed to directly impact the lives of the citizens of Selangor.
