SHAH ALAM, Jan 18 — The Badminton Asia Team Championships (BATC) 2024, to be held at the Setia Alam Convention Centre from February 13 to 18, is expected to draw more than 20,000 fans from around Malaysia and abroad.

State executive councillor for sports Najwan Halimi said Selangor will be the host for the second year in a row.

“This shows how much the Selangor government is committed to investing in, and growing, the sports industry in the state,” said Najwan at a press meet, here today.

“By hosting, we are also given the opportunity to showcase Selangor and encourage more tourists to come, which will help the local economy.”

Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) secretary general  Datuk Kenny Goh and Selangor State Sports Council (MSNS) executive director Mohamad Nizam Marjugi were also at the event .

Goh said that Selangor has once again been chosen to host the BATC as it did an excellent job last year.

Even though the number of Covid-19 infections was high then, Selangor was adept and resourceful in every aspect of organising the championship, he added.

“Selangor made a bid to host, and because it did the job well last year, we decided it was right to make them the organisers again.

“Even though Covid-19 restrictions were in place last year, many fans came. This time around, we expect an even bigger show,” said Goh.

BATC 2024 will showcase Asia’s best players from 26 countries, including China, Japan, India, Indonesia, Singapore, Kazakhstan and the United Arab Emirates.
