SHAH ALAM, Jan 31 — The flood issue in Taman Sri Muda, which has plagued residents for over a decade, is an issue Kota Kemuning state assemblyman S. Preakas seeks to resolve by this term.
He said their efforts include a RM6.8 million drainage system upgrade project since July 2021, which includes Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) constructing a substation.
The project’s main scope involves embankment protection, installing screw pumps, as well as constructing quarters, compact sub, and electrical components.
“In addition, we are currently conducting a technical study for a megaflood mitigation project, at over RM100 million in costs.
“If implemented, it will provide a complete solution to the flood issue and relief to Taman Sri Muda’s 30,000 residents,” he said when contacted.
Preakas added the substation construction project, which will supply electricity to the pump houses, was originally scheduled to be completed on January 24. However, it has been delayed due to the unstable soil structure.
“The construction work cannot proceed due to soil movement. As such, they need to strengthen the foundation as it is located on the riverbank,” he said.
In November last year, state executive councillor for infrastructure Izham Hashim said the Federal government has approved a RM160 million allocation to build a flood barrier wall in Taman Sri Muda.
