SHAH ALAM, Jan 30 — Selangor deputy state secretary (management) Mohamad Zahri Samingon has been appointed the new Petaling Jaya mayor.
This is according to an official announcement shared by the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) on its Facebook page yesterday, which was accompanied by a congratulatory message.
The local council said Zahri’s appointment will take effect beginning February 1.
He succeeds Mohamad Azhan Md Amir, whose two-year tenure ended on October 20 last year. The top position has been vacant since.
The Star quoted Petaling Jaya deputy mayor Aznan Hassan as confirming the appointment, adding that Zahri’s swearing-in ceremony as the new mayor will take place on February 5.
Zahri has served in various key positions and roles throughout his lengthy career.
He was appointed deputy state secretary in June 2021, during which time he also held the positions of chief digital officer and information and communications technology security officer at the Selangor State Secretary Office.
Prior to that, he served as the director of the Statistics Department’s Management Services Division.
Among other appointments include his chairmanship at Urbancubes Sdn Bhd effective September 2, 2021.
