Eligible village homes will continue enjoying assessment tax exemptions — Exco

SHAH ALAM, Feb 2 — The state government will continue its assessment tax exemption for eligible village homes this year, said state executive councillor for local government Dato’ Ng Suee Lim.

However, it will not be done in a blanket manner as was the case in previous years since homeowners must meet all the set conditions to be eligible.

“The state government is committed to continuing its assistance for village homes, as well as introducing new measures to enhance facilities in a bid to preserve the cultural significance and value of these villages in Selangor.

“For 2024, the state will continue with its assessment tax exemption for low- and middle-income owners of village houses who are in need,” he said in a statement today.

Under the new targeted policy, an owner must meet five eligibility criteria, namely:

  • Applicant must be a Malaysian citizen residing in Selangor.
  • Applicant must be registered as the owner of a village house in Selangor.
  • Applicant’s house must be 2,000 square feet or less.
  • Applicant’s monthly household income must be RM5,000 or under.
  • One house per applicant.

To ensure the smooth implementation of the programme, Ng said the respective local authorities will begin issuing physical notices to village homeowners at the end of this month.

“Those who meet the eligibility requirements can submit their applications from March 1 to May 31. The results of the applications can be accessed from September 1 onwards,” he said.

Last year, the state spent RM11.551 million to help close to 100,000 village homeowners throughout Selangor by providing exemptions on their assessment taxes.

In total, Ng said 745,790 units have benefited from this initiative since its implementation, with an overall allocation of RM91.498 million by the state government.

The statement comes three days after the Selangor State Executive Council agreed to review the blanket assessment tax exemption for village homes, which has been in place since 2016.

He said the exemption is available to Chinese new villages, planned villages (kampung tersusun), and fishing villages (bagan) if they meet the five conditions.
