Number of Palestinian administrative detainees in Israeli prisons reach 3,484

RAMALLAH, Feb 8 — The number of Palestinian administrative detainees in Israeli occupation prisons reached 3,484 at the end of January, including at least 40 children and 11 women, the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS) said Wednesday.

In a statement, PPS highlighted the significant increase in the number of administrative detainees, explaining that this number was not recorded even in the years of the first intifada that broke out in 1987, Palestinian news agency WAFA reported.

The statement indicated that the occupation authorities have issued more than 3,400 administrative detention orders, including new and renewed orders, since the beginning of its comprehensive aggression against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank on October 7 last year.

It added that November recorded the highest rate in the issuance of administrative detention orders, amounting to 1,120 orders.

The statement said the occupation targeted all groups, including children, women, activists and journalists, noting that the number of detainees before October 7 was approximately 1,320.

It said that the number of children in administrative detention reached at least 40, along with 11 women. Additionally, 21 journalists, including one female journalist, were transferred to administrative detention.
