SHAH ALAM, Feb 8 — A total of 57 new Syariah lawyers were appointed by the Selangor Syariah Judiciary Department (Jakess) today.
The appointments were officiated by Selangor Islamic Religious Council (Mais) chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof, in the presence of Selangor Syariah Chief Judge Datuk Mohammad Adib Husain.
In his speech, Aziz said these appointments symbolise the readiness of Syariah lawyers to assist the Muslim community in the state and supporting the Islamic judiciary institution.
“The career of a Syariah lawyer is not merely about income and popularity; it also upholds the sovereignty of the law and maintains the credibility of the Syariah Court,” he said today.
He added that Mais and Jakess are committed to delivering the mandate given by Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj to ensure the religion and sovereignty of Syariah law are preserved.
Aziz cited the decree of the state ruler that both institutions should not be challenged by any party.
“As the chairman of the National Council for Islamic Religious Affairs, His Royal Highness reminds non-Muslims to respect and refrain from interfering in matters related to Islam.
“I believe that with the presence of Islamic thinkers and credible legal experts, we can defend the Syariah judiciary and legal institutions in this country,” he said.
