HULU LANGAT, March 31 — Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari wants Universiti Islam Selangor’s (UIS) students and personnel to strengthen their efforts in community outreach, with the aim of creating a knowledgeable community ecosystem.
He said the concept of knowledge transfer is not solely limited to an educational institution’s scope but ought to be further extended into its surrounding society.
“We want the surrounding community to be accustomed to and be influenced by the university’s presence. We see many examples abroad, such as in Boston, the United States, where Harvard University’s presence has had a significant impact.
“Ultimately, it directly affects the surrounding community by forming an excellent educational ecosystem within it. It is not just about learning in classrooms or lecture halls but about how we connect the wisdom of knowledge and the exploration of experience through interaction with society.
“This should be implemented and practised by all students. The exploration of knowledge and experience is not only within the university’s scope but extends beyond that,” Amirudin said.
The Menteri Besar was speaking at the Qiamullail Perdana programme and the pre-fast meal and Subuh prayers with 300 UIS students and personnel at Masjid Al-Azhar UIS in Bandar Seri Putra this morning.
He also listened to a sermon, ‘Di Bawah Teduhan al-Quran’, delivered by UIS Deputy Vice-Chancellor Associate Prof Datuk Mohd Farid Ravi Abdullah, as well as presenting Hari Raya Aidilfitri contributions to 56 UIS asnaf (tithe recipients) students and orphans.
Amirudin added that UIS is a symbol of excellence and capability, which ensures Selangor’s development and progress via knowledge.
“The state can be strengthened in various sectors and fields of knowledge, covering all aspects including religion, with UIS’ establishment,” he said.
