KAJANG, March 12 —The Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) or MBI has allocated RM70,000 to sponsor 35 Rumah Pengasih Warga Prihatin residents for the Malaysian Skills Certificate (SKM).

MBI chief executive officer Saipolyazan M Yusop said the Selangor Technical Development Centre (STDC) provided the funding for the Prior Achievement Recognition (PPT) 2024 programme.

Saipolyazan said the inaugural sponsorship involved programmes for culinary, pastry, electrical, automotive, vehicle painting, air conditioning and sewing.

“I was told that all of the programme’s graduates are skilled in their respective fields, but there is no certificate that recognises their skills. The Prior Achievement Recognition programme gives them the opportunity to have their skills certified and recognised officially.

“MBI hopes that this programme will help them and guarantee a better future,” he said when met after the Rumah Pengasih Warga Prihatin convocation ceremony sponsored by MBI at the Main Hall, Rumah Pengasih Warga Prihatin Complex here yesterday.

The home accommodates orphans, the disabled, the elderly, the poor and troubled individuals with behavioural issues.

Saipolyazan said MBI has always supported efforts to produce a skilled workforce and empower technical and vocational education and training (TVET) graduates in line with state policy.

“Thus, cooperation from all parties is very important towards producing skilled workers to meet market needs and fill job opportunities in various fields,” he said.

STDC is a technical education institution under the state government that offers a variety of quality skills training and has a high impact on industrial revolution 4.0.

On November 17 of last year, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the state government spent RM15.3 million to empower TVET involving 3,957 students from 2018.

Amirudin said the funds help students undergo training modules and programmes under the Smart Selangor Technical Skills and Expertise Initiative (Iktisass) at STDC.
