HULU SELANGOR, April 15 – Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari has advised Kuala Kubu Baharu voters against believing false statements and negative propaganda brought by opposing parties ahead of the upcoming by-election of the state seat on May 11.

He said opponents of the ruling party would propagate various accusations and slanders to accomplish their objectives.

“In this day and age, we should rely on facts and figures… so don’t fall for their games and negative propaganda. If I have made mistakes, I am ready to apologise and admit to it, but not for false accusations.

“A country and any race cannot progress on slander and deceit,” he said during an Aidilfitri gathering at Balai Raya Taman Seri Batang Kali, here yesterday.

Amirudin also told the residents to rationally assess any particular situation rather than simply believing everything they read or heard.

“Look into it carefully… I believe the people of Selangor are wise, and I trust in the wisdom of the people of this state,” he added.

The Election Commission has scheduled the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election to be held on May 11, with nomination day on April 27 and early voting on May 7.

The state seat became vacant on March 21, following the death of former incumbent Lee Kee Hiong.

Lee, 58, who represented Kuala Kubu Baharu under the Hulu Selangor parliament for three terms since 2013, passed away after battling cancer for several years.
