SHAH ALAM, April 23 — The Selangor government, through the Selangor Technical Skills Development Centre (STDC), has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Orangeleaf Consulting and Mendix to boost the state’s digital innovation, announced Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

Taking to platform X, Amirudin, who witnessed the signing during his state visit to Hannover Messe 2024, one of the world’s largest tradeshows for industrial technology held in Germany, said the partnership will help the state train a high-quality skilled workforce.

“The low-code platform Mendix, owned by Siemens, offers powerful and modern software development tools, revolutionising enterprise application development.

“Unlike traditional coding methods, Mendix uses visual drag-and-drop modules, making it accessible to individuals without coding backgrounds while significantly reducing time to market for innovative solutions.

“Orangeleaf Consulting, a leading low-code innovation consultancy, is poised to play a crucial role in bridging the talent gap by increasing the number of Malaysian developers equipped with low-code proficiency in Mendix.

“Through training programmes, innovation labs, mentoring initiatives, and community engagement efforts, Orangeleaf Consulting aims to cultivate a thriving ecosystem of skilled professionals driving digital transformation initiatives in the state,” he said.

Later in a joint statement, STDC, Orangleaf Consulting and Mendix said their strategic partnership will foster technological advancement, nurture local talent and promote digital transformation initiatives within industries in Selangor.

It also quoted Amirudin as saying that the collaboration aligns with the state’s mission to promote technological advancement, reduce digital divide and further increase economic growth.

“We are committed to collaborating closely with Mendix and other stakeholders to maximise the benefits of this partnership,” he said.

The Menteri Besar said the state government will also improve its role to ensure the success of local businesses by coordinating with educational institutions and spotlighting the yet-to-be-tapped potential of higher-end technical and vocational education at the community level.

As for the understanding with Orangeleaf Consulting, Amirudin said the state intends to strike partnerships with more interested parties in the future in the rapidly growing space of the digital economy.

“Partnerships like this will push the needle to provide better- and higher-paying job opportunities for the young people of Selangor. As a state government, we intend to provide the best possible platform for Malaysia’s best brains to work in Selangor and compete with the world’s best.”

Previously, when tabling the 2024 Selangor Budget in November last year, Amirudin announced a RM13.85 million allocation to elevate the role of technical and vocational education in Selangor to a higher level.

Amirudin’s attendance at the Hannover Messe 2024 is part of his ongoing official trip to Germany.

During his visit, he also witnessed the signing of MoU between STDC and KNX Association, a standard-setting body for building automation, along with Seikou Systec Sdn Bhd.

The partnership aims to establish the state as a hub for professional certification in building automation by fostering collaboration with key industry players.
