SHAH ALAM, April 20 — The Selangor government plans to establish itself as a hub for professional certification in building automation by collaborating with leading industry players, such as KNX Association, said Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

The Menteri Besar said the state administration, through the Selangor Technical Skills Development Center (STDC), along with Seikou Systec Sdn Bhd, has partnered with the standard-setting body to transform the state’s building automation sector by integrating KNX modules into the Malaysian Skills Certificate (SKM) Electrical Certification Level 3.

“The primary objective of this collaboration is to position Selangor as a key hub for granting and managing professional certification in building automation.

“By partnering with leading industry players, especially the KNX Association — which serves as a standard-setting body for building automation — this partnership aims to leverage the association’s expertise and extensive global network to bolster Selangor’s reputation in this field,” he said in a Facebook post today.

Amirudin said the collaboration with the globally renowned association, which has a network of 505 certified training centres in 73 countries and a vast industry network of more than 105,000 partners in 178 countries, would boost the state’s competitiveness in building automation technology.

“By joining forces with the KNX Association and other industry partners like Seikou Systec Sdn Bhd, STDC aims to tap into this extensive network to facilitate the dissemination of knowledge, skills, and certifications related to building automation technology,” he added.

Meanwhile, in a separate post on his trade visit to Germany, Amirudin said that the Selangor delegation had visited the Siemens Mobility Rail Service Centre in Dortmund-Eving, Germany, which provides the latest rail technology in the country.

He said the visit is part of the state government’s commitment to developing the Kita Selangor Rail Line, which is part of the Selangor Unity Government’s manifesto for the 2023 Selangor state election.

“The Selangor delegation was briefed on Siemens Mobility’s expertise in the rail sector, which includes a 5.5-kilometre track in Dortmund-Eving and the construction of a six-track workshop, a three-story warehouse, and a train cleaning facility. All maintenance procedures are 100 per cent paperless.

“The knowledge acquired from this visit goes beyond guaranteeing knowledge sharing to include addressing the needs of the state using knowledge-based industrial involvement in the areas of research education, services and technology,” the post read.

Amirudin said that a strong partnership with the rail service centre would also enable the state administration to bring in technology and expertise to continue developing automation in line with the Fourth Industrial Revolution (IR 4.0).

“I will also meet with the Siemens delegation led by their chief executive officer to explore cooperation opportunities and Siemens’ investment potential in Selangor,” he added.

Prior to the 2023 state polls last August, Pakatan Harapan (Harapan) and its new political ally, Barisan Nasional (BN), jointly launched their manifesto for Selangor, presenting 53 major offers under five main thrusts for the coming five years.

Among the offers include creating 100,000 new high-paying jobs in the state, establishing three new townships with affordable housing in Sepang, Sabak Bernam, and along Sungai Klang, and developing the Kita Selangor Rail Line to connect Klang to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and transform the Selangor West Coast.
