Selangor Sultan conveys condolences to Tun Hanif Omar’s family

SHAH ALAM, April 20 — The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj, has extended condolences to the family of former Inspector-General of Police Tun Mohammed Hanif Omar who died early this morning.

Also conveying her condolences was Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor, Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin.

According to a post on the Selangor Royal Office’s Instagram page, Mohammed Hanif served as the Selangor Police Chief for two years, starting in 1971.

“In recognition of Mohammed Hanif’s services and contributions, the late Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah bestowed upon him the Dato’ Seri Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah (S.S.S.A.) award in 1992.

“Their Royal Highnesses pray that Mohammed Hanif’s soul be showered with divine mercy and be placed among the believers and the righteous,” it said.

Mohammed Hanif, 85, breathed his last at 2.15 am today due to kidney disease. He was appointed the fourth Inspector-General of Police at the age of 35 on June 8, 1974, and retired on Jan 15, 1994.
