Choose candidate who can carry on Kee Hiong’s legacy, Wan Azizah tells KKB voters

HULU SELANGOR, May 9 — Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail has urged Kuala Kubu Baharu voters to fulfil their civic duty by voting in the by-election on Saturday.

The Bandar Tun Razak MP, who is also the Prime Minister’s wife, said boycotting the by-election would disadvantage the people, who have the choice to elect a candidate who can effectively serve the local community.

“The Unity Government candidate represents not only women but all voters in Kuala Kubu Baharu. Let’s not miss the opportunity to vote, as it is our responsibility,” she said in reference to Pakatan Harapan candidate Pang Sock Tao.

“Let’s not make excuses or say we don’t want to, as we may regret it later. Let’s not boycott,” she told the press when met during a walkabout programme with Pang in Kuala Kubu Baharu here today.

Calling for locals to vote for the Unity Government candidate, Wan Azizah described Pang as the best candidate to continue the legacy of the late Lee Kee Hiong, former three-term Kuala Kubu Baharu assemblyman.

“I’m here to lend my support and endorse our candidate. Choose our candidate. She is capable of continuing the legacy of the late Lee besides empowering women here,” she said.

Pang, 31, expressed hope she could conclude her campaign by meeting all voters in the state constituency within the remaining 48 hours.

She said the people’s reception of her has been positive, and she hopes this will result in her victory in the by-election.

“The reception from voters has been very good since the start of the campaign, and it is improving day by day. I urge everyone to give me the opportunity to represent the voice of young women in the state assembly,” she added.

Lee, 58, passed away on March 21 after succumbing to cancer.

She served as state representative from 2013.

Polling begins on Saturday.
