HULU SELANGOR, May 5 — Pang Sock Tao, the Unity Government’s candidate for the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election, aims to make eco-tourism the primary economic source for its residents.
She said she has drafted both long-term and short-term plans to realise this aspiration through her election manifesto, which was launched on Friday (May 3).
“I aim to establish eco-tourism as Kuala Kubu Baharu’s primary economic source. I hope the local residents can seize this opportunity to generate their own income.
“We have short and long-term plans to realise this. Among them, I also want to create special products that have elements of Kuala Kubu Baharu’s heritage and culture, which can be marketed,” Pang said.
She was speaking to the press after conducting a walkabout at the Heritage Street Carnival Bazaar (Bazar Warisan Temasya Jalanan) yesterday. Accompanying her was Selangor State Legislative Assembly Speaker Lau Weng San.
During the walkabout, Pang spent time with visitors, distributed profile leaflets, and demonstrated her ability to play carrom.
She added that she is determined to continue the efforts of the late state assemblyman Lee Kee Hiong, who had raised Kuala Kubu Baharu’s profile as an eco-tourism area, especially for nature lovers.
“I am satisfied with the presence of many tourists on weekends. I want to further enhance the late assemblyman’s efforts and plan more tourism activities here,” Pang said.
During the manifesto’s launch on Friday, she said it contains five thrusts: the economy, public facilities, environment and recreation, heritage and culture, and the people’s welfare.
The state constituency is listed as a United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organisation World Heritage Site, under its Garden City Heritage category. Some of its eco-tourism locations include Bukit Kutu and Sungai Chilling.
