KKB polls early voting ends at 5pm

HULU SELANGOR, May 7 — Early voting for the Kuala Kubu Baharu (KKB) by-election concluded today after two polling centres closed at 5pm.

The voting centres — the multipurpose halls of the Royal Malaysian Police College and the 4th Infantry Division of the Royal Signals Regiment — opened at 8am.

Early voting in the by-election involved 625 policemen, 238 military personnel and their spouses.

The Election Commission (EC) said early voting saw a 96 per cent turnout as at 3pm, thanks to fine weather in the morning.

EC chairman Tan Sri Abdul Ghani Salleh, as well as Pakatan Harapan candidate Pang Sock Tao and Perikatan Nasional candidate Khairul Azhari Saut, were spotted at the two centres.

The by-election sees a four-cornered fight between Pang, Khairul Azhari, Hafizah Zainuddin (Parti Rakyat Malaysia) and Nyau Ke Xin (Independent).

It was called after the March 21 death of incumbent Lee Kee Hiong, 58, due to cancer.

KKB has 40,226 registered voters.

Polling day is May 11.

Eighteen polling centres with 74 channels will be open from 8am until 6pm on polling day, except for the polling centre at SJKC Bukit Fraser, which closes at 2pm.
