Media Selangor, MSU collaborate to boost student employability, enhance graduate skills

SHAH ALAM, May 24 — Media Selangor Sdn Bhd has entered into a partnership with Management and Science University (MSU) to provide students with industry skills, internships and job placements to further enhance graduate employability.

The memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed today during MSU’s Idea Regeneration eXpo (MSU iReX), the university’s flagship event organised by its Faculty of Information Sciences and Engineering (FISE).

Prior to the MoU signing, MSU president Tan Sri Mohd Shukri Ab Yajid said the collaboration aims to bridge the gap between academia and industry, to ensuring MSU graduates are equipped with the necessary skills and experience to meet job market demands.

“We are working with some 2,000 companies across our schools (in the university) and we keep adding the numbers and working with industry associations.

“We want to provide the right talents for the industries, but industries also need partners.

“If you’d like to have a positive impact on our country’s economic growth, regardless of level — small and medium enterprises, government-linked companies or multinational companies — we need this integration.

“If we can combine these forces, I’m sure all these companies and the economy can grow, and students can get the right opportunities,” he said in his speech at MSU’s Chancellor Hall here today.

Shukri said stakeholders cannot just look at competing on old, lower-cost platforms, but must be committed to generating the right talent using other means.

“In collaborating with industries, how can we work together? It is not just internships. We are looking to go beyond internships and include research collaborations and community work as well.”

Exchanging the MoU at the event were FISE dean Assoc Prof Adam Amril Jaharadak and Media Selangor operation and strategic cluster head Mohd Zulkifli Ismail.

When speaking to the press later, Zulkifli said the MoU signifies good industry collaboration with a public university, but said the media agency can offer more than internships for graduates.

“There will be a few key focuses in this collaboration, such as talent management, education and training.

“We also like to contribute more, such as engaging in talks with industries and other programmes hosted by MSU,” he said.

Zulkifli also said Media Selangor is keen on collaborating with other local universities and industry players.

The collaboration between MSU and Media Selangor aims to promote and facilitate teaching, research and training programmes.

It will provide career opportunities for MSU students, including internships and job placements, and promote expertise exchanges along with executive development programmes for staff and students.

The partnership includes Media Selangor’s participation in MSU convocations through industry awards for top graduates, accepting MSU staff for industrial attachment, engaging in industrial talks, participating in corporate social responsibility activities, and working in mutually agreed fields of collaboration.

MSU iReX showcases the innovative projects of final-year students across various disciplines, including graphic and multimedia, engineering and technology, and information science and computing.

This flagship event, themed Transformative Horizons: Breaking Boundaries, Inspiring Growth and Creating Sustainable Change, will showcase the innovative projects of 409 students across three departments, involving 266 bachelor’s and 143 diploma students.
