HULU SELANGOR, May 7 — Unity Government candidate for the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election Pang Sock Tao has made it one of her goals to liven up the arts and cultural scene in the rural state constituency, if she is elected.
Pang, who is contesting under the Pakatan Harapan banner, said she intends to collaborate with non-governmental organisations, residents’ associations and local authorities to promote art and culture that showcase the uniqueness of Kuala Kubu Baharu.
This also aligns with her aspiration to continue the legacy started by the late Lee Kee Hiong, the incumbent state assemblyman who died of cancer on March 21.
“I will strive to get funds to organise more programmes that gather artists and art enthusiasts, if given the mandate to represent the constituency.
“This is also to encourage tourism activities to attract more visitors to this historical town, thereby boosting the local economy,” she said last night.
Pang said this during a ceremony in remembrance of Lee at the Hulu Selangor Literary and Arts Gallery, here.
She also expressed her desire to attract more young people to be interested in participating in artistic and literary activities to nurture a generation that appreciates and learns from cultural heritage.
“I believe we should utilise social media platforms to conduct promotions and campaigns in collaboration with state agencies like Tourism Selangor to capture the interests of the younger audience,” she said.
The Election Commission has set May 11 as polling day for the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election, while early voting is today.
