SHAH ALAM, May 20 — The Selangor government was recognised by the Malaysia Book of Records today after the former gathered 1,066 kindergarteners for an integrity awareness campaign, the highest ever.

The programme organised by Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated), or MBI, which was held at the Dewan Raja Muda Musa in Seksyen 7 here, was aimed at inculcating the value of integrity from a young age.

It was held in collaboration with the Standing Committee on Education of the State Secretary’s Office and with the support of the Selangor State Nursery Association and Yayasan Sinar Untuk Malaysia (Rasuah Busters).

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari, who officiated the event, in his speech said the effort to expand and fortify integrity among Malaysians extends beyond adults, with focus also on nurturing these principles among children.

“Although the concept of integrity is quite broad and challenging to elucidate to children, efforts to educate must cut across all age groups by explaining (the concepts) to (children) in simpler terms using suitable methods,” he said.

Later in a press conference, Amirudin said integrity has become a crucial aspect in the country’s political landscape.

“For the first time in 2018, Malaysia made a decision based on a huge case involving the integrity of government leaders. Since then, I believe the theme (of integrity) has become ingrained in the context of the administration and public understanding.

“We see every now and then how the issue of integrity captures the people’s attention, regardless of the perpetrator. It has become a vital consideration when it comes to deciding at the ballot box or in showing support for a political party.”

Today’s event saw children aged three to six partaking in a colouring activity of illustrations related to integrity.
