SHAH ALAM, May 2 — The Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) has clinched the national-level Asean Clean Tourist City Standard Award (2024-2026), becoming the sole local government in Selangor to achieve this recognition.
In a statement, MBSA said assessment for the award was based on seven key indicators – environmental management; cleanliness; waste management; awareness of environmental protection and cleanliness; green landscaping; urban safety and health; and tourism infrastructure.
“MBSA is committed to continue improving the quality and tourism facilities in the city of Shah Alam to attract more tourists, both domestic and international, thereby contributing to the creation of a sustainable city,” it said today.
The assessment for the award took place on August 17 and 18 last year.
During this session, all provided data and indicators were presented to the attending jury panel.
The award presentation ceremony, held at Cyberview Resort and Spa on April 29, saw Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry (Motac) secretary-general Datuk Roslan Abdul Rahman presenting the accolade to Shah Alam Mayor Cheremi Tarman.
The award was organised by Motac to acknowledge tourism industry players who meet Asean tourism standards.
