MBSA partners with Averex Technology to enhance food safety measures

SHAH ALAM, May 23 — The Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Averex Technology Sdn Bhd, a specialist in cleaning chemicals and sanitation solutions, to support its food premises cleanliness campaign.

In a statement today, MBSA Corporate Communications director Mohd Azhar Mohd Sharif said the MoU is part of the council’s efforts to support the state’s preparation for Visit Selangor Year 2025.

“The food premises cleanliness campaign involves 300 food business operators and owners. It aims to improve cleanliness levels at premises frequented by tourists, enhance cleanliness standards at low-grade establishments, and ensure the highest cleanliness standards across all food premises.

“This initiative by MBSA seeks to elevate the cleanliness of every food premises in Shah Alam to meet the standards set for Visit Selangor Year 2025/2026. 

“It also aims to expose and educate food premises operators about maintaining cleanliness practices to ensure food safety,” said Azhar.

MBSA Mayor Cheremi Tarman officiated the signing ceremony on May 21 alongside Averex Chemicals managing director Kevin Tan. Also in attendance were Averex Chemicals marketing manager Wilson Ng, MBSA council members, and the executive management team.

As of 2023, MBSA has licenced 4,117 food premises in Shah Alam.

To ensure cleanliness, MBSA, through its Environmental Health Department, has introduced the iGRED Self-Inspection Food Premises Cleanliness System.

Other initiatives, such as routine inspections, grading, enforcement measures like fines, demerit systems, integrated operations, and confiscating unsafe or unsanitary foods, complement the system.

For Visit Selangor Year 2025, the Selangor government is targeting seven million local and international tourists to visit the state, with a focus on promoting ecotourism.
