Selangor FC files appeal against MFL’s revised decision

SUBANG JAYA, June 30 — Selangor FC has filed an appeal on the Malaysian Football League’s (MFL) board of directors’ decision yesterday.

When confirming the matter, its chief executive officer Johan Kamal Hamidon refused to comment further on the details of the appeal.

“Yes. We submitted an appeal to the MFL yesterday based on the reconsidered decision. I cannot share the details of the appeal because I do not want to interfere with the process,” he said.

Johan was speaking at the launch of Tanjong Subang Jaya, a hospitality service brand by the Selangor Football Association, officiated by Raja Muda Selangor Tengku Amir Shah today.

He also confirmed that MFL has not yet provided any feedback regarding the appeal so far.

On June 27, the league said its board of directors exercised discretion when reviewing the punishment imposed on Selangor FC, in honour of the Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj’s decree.

Following MFL’s reconsideration, the club’s fine was reduced from RM100,000 to RM60,000, while the deduction of three points in the 2024-2025 Super League competition was also revoked.

Additionally, the ban on spectators for the 14th week Super League match against Johor Darul Ta’zim at the Petaling Jaya City Council Stadium was lifted, and spectators are allowed to attend the match.

MFL said the appeal period given to Selangor FC is three days starting from June 27, as stipulated in the Malaysian League Manual’s Enforcement Body Rules’ Rule Four, Method Three.

On Tuesday (June 25), the club was fined RM100,000 and deducted three points for the 2024/2025 Super League competition after it decided to forego the Charity Shield Cup match against Johor Darul Ta’zim on May 10.

Selangor FC pulled out of the match against JDT out of concern for its players’ safety after its star winger Mohamad Faisal Abdul Halim was left severely injured in an acid attack by unknown assailants at a shopping centre in Petaling Jaya on May 5.

After a strongly-worded statement by Sultan Sharafuddin rebuking the MFL, the state government launched a crowdfunding campaign to help the club pay its fine.
