Selangor extends free bus service for students’ Aidilfitri homecoming

TASEK GELUGOR, July 1 — The state government will continue providing free buses for university students from Selangor to go home for Aidilfitri next year.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said this is part of the state’s commitment to support student welfare and ease their financial burden.

“The state will continue this initiative after considering requests by the Selangor Peninsular Malaysia Students’ Association, Selangor Student Association, and student representative councils of different universities.

“I urge these parties to update their data on Selangor students to facilitate the implementation of this initiative,” he said yesterday.

He was responding to a question from a student about whether the government will continue the initiative, during a dialogue session at the Jerayawara Siswa Kita Selangor programme at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) here.

Earlier this year, the state provided five buses to bring home over 180 Selangor university students from across the country ahead of Aidilfitri.

Last year’s initiative involved USM, Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia, Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka, Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin, and Universiti Malaysia Pahang students.
