Tengku Amir graces UITM’s silver jubilee cycling event

SHAH ALAM, July 2 — Raja Muda Selangor Tengku Amir Shah graced the closing of the ‘Kayuhan Kapsul Rentas Cawangan,’ cycling event today, held in conjunction with the 25th anniversary of Universiti Teknologi Mara’s university status.

His Highness cycled alongside 12 participants from the university’s Puncak Alam campus to its Shah Alam campus, marking the end of the participants’ 2,000-km cycling journey to UiTM’s branches in each state in the Peninsula.

The cycling team carries capsules containing the aspirations and hopes of each university campus. These capsules will be buried in a monument that will be revealed during UiTM’s Gala Night on August 24.

The sole female cyclist involved in the event, Norlizan Wahid, also a senior UiTM lecturer at its Penang campus’ Faculty of Engineering, expressed her pride for being selected to join the mission and completing the journey, which she described as mentally and physically challenging.

“I often participate in cycling activities, but the farthest I have cycled was around 350 km…Alhamdulillah, we managed to complete the journey safely.

“In conjunction with the 25th anniversary, I hope what we have gathered in these capsules will become a reality. As bearers of hope on behalf of each campus, we are deeply honoured and pray that all aspirations expressed will be realised,” she said.

Meanwhile, UiTM vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Shahrin Sahib said UiTM will continuously focus its efforts on the success and employability of graduates to ensure the institution remains relevant and resilient in the future, adding that the employability rate of its graduates has now reached 89.4 per cent.
