MOE postpones sports, co-curricular programmes in all schools from today

KUALA LUMPUR March 13 — The Education Ministry (MOE) has directed the postponement of all large gatherings such as sports programmes and co-curricular activities in all schools across the country, with effect from today, following the call by the Health Ministry to avoid holding such gatherings in a bid to contain the spread of Covid-19.

In a statement issued today, the Education Ministry said any change to this directive will be announced at a later date.

“All staff are reminded to abide by standard operating procedures issued by the Health Ministry on measures to contain the coronavirus,” it added, while urging staff to postpone overseas travel particularly to provinces and cities affected by Covid-19.

The ministry said it viewed the Covid-19 situation seriously and would work closely with the Health Ministry.

It also advised those experiencing symptoms of the virus to contact the nearest District Health Office or the National Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre (CPRC).
