SHAH ALAM, Jan 22 — The state government has extended assistance to a woman who was recently caught shoplifting basic necessities at a hypermarket in Petaling Jaya, Berita Harian (BH) Online reported today.

Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the RM200 monthly cash aid via the Kasih Ibu Smart Selangor (KISS) initiative would allow the mother of three to purchase daily essentials every month.

He said that the woman is required to register for the programme to receive the benefits considering that her previous address was in Pahang.

“I am touched by this matter, moreover in Selangor, we have special programmes for those in need. Insya Allah (Godwilling), we will coordinate the KISS assistance.

“It’s just that in the early stage, the mother has to register for it and it will all be sorted out,” said Amirudin during a surprise visit to the woman’s house in Lembah Subang yesterday.

Amirudin, who was accompanied by two assistants, had also handed out to the family some private contributions.

He said the visit was made after reading about the woman in her 30s getting caught for shoplifting basic household items in a hypermarket.

Meanwhile, the Selangor Zakat Board has notified that the woman involved was a registered ‘asnaf’ since 2018.

The family receives monthly financial assistance, Hari Raya and school item contributions but the agency said it will reassess their needs following the incident.

The individual was said to have been caught after trying to leave without paying RM58 for food items and fever relief pads for her son.

Earlier yesterday, Petaling Jaya District Police chief Asst Comm Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal also paid a visit to the woman and offered some help including classifying her case as ‘no further action’ (NFA).
