SHAH ALAM, July 28 — The Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Department (Maqis) seized frozen beef, worth RM296,998.91, from Australia in a container at West Port, Port Klang, near here last Monday.
Selangor Maqis, in a statement today, said the seizure was made when its officials stopped the container during a routine check and found it containing 24,987.96 kilogrammes (kg) of frozen meat, but without a valid import permit.
The case is investigated under Section 11(1) of the Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Act 2011 (Act 728), which is punishable with a fine not exceeding RM100,000 or imprisonment for up to six years, or both, upon conviction.
