Air Selangor: Two water treatment plants back in operation

SHAH ALAM, Dec 20 — As of 7am today, the Semenyih 2 and Sg Langat Water Treatment Plants (WTP) have commenced operation, and the water supply will begin restoration to consumers in stages.

In a statement on Facebook today, Pengurusan Air Selangor (Air Selangor) said the water supply from Semenyih 2 WTP is expected to fully recover by 10pm today, while for Sg Langat WTP it will be determined later.

“The raw water pumping process for the Langat 2 WTP has commenced. The supply recovery process will be updated at a later time.

“As for the Cheras Batu 11 WTP, the cleaning process following the flood incident is being carried out,” said Air Selangor.

It added water tankers will continue to be mobilised in stages to affected areas, with priority given to critical premises during the unscheduled water supply disruption.

“Air Selangor seeks consumers’ cooperation to practise social distancing and wear face masks while collecting the water supply from the water tankers,” it said.

Yesterday, Air Selangor announced that 472 areas in Petaling, Hulu Langat and Kuala Lumpur regions face water cuts, due to the rising river waters that led to floods.

This resulted in the shutdown of the WTPs at Langat 2 and Cheras Batu 11, and caused a reduction in the operational capacity at the Cheras Batu 11 WTP to only 40 per cent.

Later on the same day, Air Selangor announced that another 70 areas in Hulu Langat regions face water cuts due to the increase in the water level that had entered the raw water pump house that forced the shutdown of Semenyih 2 WTP.
