State halal industry fingers three countries as potential global partners

SHAH ALAM, Jan 25 — Halal industry operators from three countries have been identified as strategic partners to expand the sector in Selangor, said state executive councillor for halal industries Mohd Zawawi Ahmad Mughni.

He said the operators come from the United Kingdom, South Africa, and China.

“On February 2, a delegation and myself will head to the UK to meet with restaurant owners, hotels, and factories that produce halal products.

“We want to forge cooperation as well as attract the interest of investors to invest in Selangor, and in turn, we can market halal products there,” Mohd Zawawi said after the handover ceremony to small traders on the grounds of Wisma KoHijrah in Berjaya Park, earlier today.

He added that South Africa is one of the countries with the highest awareness of halal products, and has encouraging demand for the industry.

“As well as this, we will scope the market in China, and contact several industry players to cooperate.

“However, for the time being, we are waiting for their national borders to reopen,” said the Sungai Kandis assemblyman.

On December 15 last year, Mohd Zawawi said Selangor has many halal products, encompassing various components, but requires parties who can aid in bringing it onto the global stage.
