MetMalaysia: Seven Selangor districts to be affected by strong weather

SHAH ALAM, March 1 — Another round of heavy rains, thunderstorms and strong winds are to be expected in the country this evening, with seven districts in Selangor affected.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) said the districts in Selangor include Hulu Selangor, Klang, Gombak, Petaling, Kuala Langat, Hulu Langat, and Sepang.

“Heavy rains, thunderstorms and strong winds are also predicted in the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, and Labuan,” it said in a statement issued at 5:45pm.

Other affected states and areas include Kedah (Yan, Pendang, Kuala Muda and Sik) Perak (Kinta, Kampar, Batang Padang and Muallim), and Pahang (Tanah Tinggi Cameron, Raub, Jerantut, Bentong, Temerloh, Kuantan and Pekan)

Negeri Sembilan (Jelebu, Seremban, Port Dickson, Kuala Pilah and Rembau) is also expected to be affected by strong weather, as is Melaka (Alor Gajah and Melaka Tengah)

“In Sarawak, the areas Sri Aman, Sarikei (Pakan and Julau), Sibu (Kanowit), Kapit (Song), Bintulu (Sebauh), Miri (Subis, Beluru and Marudi) and Limbang will be affected.

“In Sabah, the affected areas are Pedalaman (Sipitang, Tenom, Kuala Penyu, Beaufort, Keningau and Tambunan) and Pantai Barat (Papar),” MetMalaysia said.

The strong weather is expected to last until 9pm tonight.

“Warnings are issued whenever signs indicate a thunderstorm with a rain intensity exceeding 20 mm that is close to or is expected to occur in excess of an hour.

“A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding six hours for a single release,” it said.
