SHAH ALAM, June 15 — Residents around the Dengkil state constituency have been urged to participate in the Selangor Saring free health screening programme this Saturday, to check on their current health status.

Its state constituency coordinator Hamidi A Hasan said the free programme will be held at Dewan Orang Ramai Taman Gemilang in Dengkil from 9am to 5pm.

“We welcome the participation of the Dengkil community in this programme because it is provided by the Selangor government for free.

“People should never take their health for granted, instead they should always be concerned and go for regular checkups. So they need to take advantage of this programme because good health guarantees a quality life,” he said when contacted.

In the meantime, Hamidi said various mediums have been used to promote the programme to encourage people to participate.

He added that apart from social media, local leaders were also asked to make public announcements to the public so the 500 slots provided for the state constituency can be met.

“We have installed 10 banners in residential areas, including around Dengkil town since yesterday. The committee members of suraus and mosques will also make an announcement on the programme to the congregation during Friday prayers.

“Hopefully, the response will be encouraging, with at least 90 per cent of the allocated slots filled,” Hamidi said.

The state government has allocated RM3.4 million for Selangor Saring, which is meant to help around 39,000 people, especially those with a history of hereditary ailments, overweight individuals, or those living unhealthy lifestyles.

The programme, which started on May 22 and will run until September 4, includes eye exams, blood and urine tests, and screening for various types of cancers.

Saring Selangor offers health screening for three categories of ailments including non-communicable diseases like heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure and kidney failure; cancer (colorectal, prostate, cervix and breast), as well as optical diseases including myopia, glaucoma and retina.
