Showers in five Selangor districts until 6pm — MetMalaysia

SHAH ALAM, Aug 31 — The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has forecasted heavy rains, strong winds and thunderstorms for over half of Selangor’s districts.

In a statement issued at 3.55pm, it said the districts include Hulu Selangor, Klang, Gombak, Petaling and Hulu Langat

“Other states and territories which will be affected include Kuala Lumpur, Labuan, Perak (Kerian, Larut, Matang and Selama, Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar, Manjung, Kinta, Kampar, Batang Padang and Muallim) • Kelantan (Jeli, Kuala Krai dan Gua Musang), Terengganu (Besut, Setiu, Hulu Terengganu, Dungun and Kemaman) and Pahang (Tanah Tinggi Cameron, Raub, Bentong, Kuantan, Pekan and Rompin)

“Also affected is Negeri Sembilan (Jelebu, Kuala Pilah and Tampin), Johor (Tangkak, Segamat, Muar, Kluang, Mersing, Kulai and Kota Tinggi), Sarawak: Sibu (Selangau), Mukah (Mukah), Bintulu, Miri (Subis, Beluru, Miri and Marudi) and Limbang, and Sabah: Pedalaman (Sipitang, Kuala Penyu and Beaufort), Pantai Barat (Papar, Putatan, Penampang, Kota Kinabalu, Tuaran and Kota Belud), Sandakan (Telupid, Kinabatangan, Beluran and Sandakan) and Kudat.

The weather is expected to persist until 6pm.

MetMalaysia issues warnings whenever signs indicate a thunderstorm with a rain intensity exceeding 20 mm that is close to or is expected to occur for more than an hour.

A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding six hours for a single release.
