Inclement weather to hit five Selangor districts this evening

SHAH ALAM, Oct 3 — Heavy rains, thunderstorms and strong winds are expected to occur in five districts in the state until 7pm today, said the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).

In a statement released at 2.50pm, the agency said the areas affected are Hulu Selangor, Gombak, Petaling, Hulu Langat and Sepang.

“The inclement weather is also expected in Perlis, Kedah, Pulau Pinang, Perak (Kerian, Larut, Matang and Selama, Kuala Kangsar, Kinta, Kampar, Batang Padang and Muallim), Kelantan (Tumpat, Pasir Mas, Kota Bharu, Bachok and Pasir Puteh).

“Similar weather patterns are also forecasted to occur in other states and areas including Terengganu, Pahang (Cameron Highlands, Lipis, Jerantut, Kuantan, Pekan and Rompin), Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka and Johor.

“Meanwhile, in East Malaysia, inclement weather is expected to hit Sarawak: Sarikei (Sarikei and Meradong), Mukah, Kapit (Belaga), Bintulu, Miri (Telang Usan) and Limbang as well as in Sabah (Papar, Putatan, Penampang, Kota Kinabalu, Tuaran and Kota Belud),” the agency said on Facebook.

MetMalaysia issues a warning when there are signs of thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm/hour which are expected to occur over the one-hour duration.

Thunderstorm warnings are short-term and are valid within six hours after it was issued.
