GE15: Amirudin to channel MP wages to Gombak’s welfare fund if elected

By Azian Aziz

GOMBAK, Nov 10 — Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari has pledged not to utilise his wages as an MP if he is elected, and instead channel it to the Gombak residents’ welfare fund.

The Pakatan Harapan (Harapan) candidate for the Gombak parliamentary seat emphasised he is contesting not for money and position, but to defend the Constitution’s dignity and bringing about changes in the area.

InsyaAllah, I will not take even a cent of my wages as an MP. I want to set up a special fund for the people in the area.

“I will put some money into the fund and will look for other investors to chip in too, and we will utilise the collection for the future of Gombak’s residents,” he said during a casual event in Taman Sunway, Batu Caves, here yesterday.

Amirudin, who is also the Selangor Harapan chairman, said he is frustrated with the decision made by Gombak’s incumbent MP to abandon the people’s mandate.

“He is like a frog. We were embarrassed because of the irresponsible MP. This time, we should make him rest and choose Harapan, choose Amirudin, the second candidate,” he added.

Amirudin was referring to the three-term incumbent Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, who won the seat under PKR but is now contesting under the Perikatan Nasional ticket.
