Selangor denies approval for plastic waste processing factories, premises to prevent pollution — Exco

SHAH ALAM, Dec 3 — The state government will not permit new recycled plastic waste processing factories or premises to operate in Selangor, said state executive councillor for the environment Hee Loy Sian.

He said the matter had been discussed and agreed upon during the 11th/2022 Selangor State Executive Council (MMKN) meeting on April 20.

“In addition, the state government will also prohibit the import of recycled plastic waste for the purpose of reacquisition or final disposal for all factories carrying out the plastic recycling process.

“This move is in line with the uncontrolled use of plastic bags that pose a significant great threat to the environment and health, if there is no careful planning over the management of plastic bags,” Hee said.

The councillor was speaking during the wind-up of the 2023 Selangor Budget, at the State Legislative Assembly sitting yesterday.

Hee added the state government has taken a proactive stance by implementing various programmes or campaigns, to raise public awareness of the impact of plastic usage

“The state government will always update and improve the implementation of environmental programmes or campaigns, to ensure the planning towards a zero-plastic society can be carried out more effectively,” he said.
