SHAH ALAM, Jan 26 — Sentosa state assemblyman Dr G. Gunaraj  is inviting the public to join the Unity Ponggal Festival held in his state constituency this Sunday.

He said the programme is scheduled to begin at 4pm at the Sentosa Community Service Centre in Taman Sri Mewah 4, Klang.

“Apart from aiding in infrastructural improvements, the programme aims to encourage the public in helping one another.

“We also want the residents and the young generation of various races and religions to live together as a family and work closely with the state agencies and private parties,” he said.

Gunaraj also hopes that the communities and associations in the constituency will attend the event.

The Ponggal festival, which falls on the 10th month of the Tamil calendar Thai, is celebrated during the harvest season by the Indian community in Tamil Nadu to appreciate a good harvest.

Ponggal refers to a sweet rice dish that is cooked with milk in a traditional clay pot.
