Budget 2023: PM Anwar calls on Felda, Felcra, Risda to implement food agriculture projects on idle land

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 24 — Agencies under the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security such as Felda, Felcra and Risda should convert their idle land with acreage of up to 800 acres into agrofood projects, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

“Only 1.2 million hectares (ha) of land are utilised for food plantations compared to seven million for oil palm and rubber,” he said when tabling Budget 2023.

Anwar said the government will allocate RM30 million for cooperation with state governments for the implementation of agrofood projects.

Apart from that, the Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces Fund Board (LTAT), together with other companies will implement a project to enhance corn grain production for the purpose of food security.

“This will provide a career opportunity to armed forces veterans. LTAT will provide 70 acres of land to implement this project,” he added.
