Rawang sets aside RM50,000 for Ramadan activities, contributions

By Sheeda Fathil

SHAH ALAM, March 31 — The Rawang state constituency has allocated RM50,000 for the organising of various activities and contributions during the ongoing Ramadan fasting month.

Its state assemblyman Chua Wei Kiat said this includes RM34,000 which was donated to five mosques at RM2,000 each and 30 suraus at RM800 each.

“We hope this assistance will ease the burdens of the management of these houses of worship, as well as make Ramadan merrier with various activities,” he said when contacted.

Chua said the state constituency has also distributed bubur lambuk and dates at Ramadan bazaars in the area, as well as holding an iftar meal with the local community.

Meanwhile, he invited Rawang’s Muslim residents with a monthly household income of under RM3,000 to apply for Hari Raya Aidilfitri shopping vouchers.

“The quota for vouchers this year is 550, so I call on Rawang residents to come by the community service centre and apply for them immediately.

“The vouchers will be distributed on April 9 at the NSK Rawang Jaya supermarket. I hope this assistance from the state government will bring some joy to the festivities later on,” Chua said.

The 2023 Selangor Budget has allocated RM16.48 million for the Jom Shopping voucher programme, which is expected to benefit approximately 82,400 recipients.

It is implemented in tandem with the three major festivals of Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Chinese New Year, and Deepavali, and is aimed at lower-income families for the purchase of essential goods.

The voucher’s value was also increased to RM200 from RM100, based on the economic situation and the needs of the people.
