Immigration Dept nabs 24,240 illegal immigrants Jan-June

KUALA LUMPUR, June 8 — The Immigration Department has detained a total of 24,240 illegal immigrants in a series of operations nationwide from January 1 to June 6 this year.

Immigration director-general Datuk Ruslin Jusoh said the department had carried out a total of 3,617 operations as well as 40,459 inspections during the period.

He said 145 employers were also detained for protecting and employing them illegally.

“Immigration will carry out continuous operations, including enhancing intelligence and monitoring in areas identified as illegal settlements and premises that are frequently visited by them,” he told a press conference here today.

In addition, he said the department had deported a total of 19,059 illegal immigrants between January 1 and May 5.
