Senior citizen drowns, seven others survive sinking boat incident

KUALA LUMPUR, June 10 — A senior citizen man was found drowned after the fishing boat he was on with seven others sank at Bagan Lalang Beach, Sepang, this afternoon.

According to a spokesman of the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department, the victim was identified as Ang Tong Poh, 67, who was the skipper of the boat while the other seven men who survived were aged between 16 and 50.

The fire brigade was informed of the incident by the Civil Defence Force at about 2.27pm, and arrived at the scene three minutes later.

“The department was informed a fishing boat with eight men on board was believed to have sunk at 12pm today, while traveling from Sepang Kecil Jetty to Kelong Haji Nazri,” he said when contacted by Bernama today.

Firefighters who searched the coast later found a man in a mangrove forest about three km from Sepang Kecil Jetty and was confirmed dead.

“The victim’s body was sent to Banting Hospital for post-mortem,” said the spokesman.
