SHAH ALAM, June 17 — The Hulu Langat Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) has allocated RM500,000 for the restoration of the collapsed riverbank retaining wall at Sungai Ayer Hitam in Bandar Baru Bangi.
Sungai Ramal state assemblyman Mazwan Johar said the project’s first phase being carried out at present includes earthworks and the construction of a steel embankment around the area, to prevent further erosion.
Expected to be completed within a month, he said the issue, which has been ongoing since the end of last year, is due to high-pressure water currents which contributed to the riverbank’s erosion.
“The jogging tracks will also be repaired so recreational activities and pedestrian walks can be resumed,” Mazwan said in a live Facebook broadcast on Thursday (June 15).
The project’s second phase will involve the repair of the water lock, which is expected to be completed by the end of this year after approval from the Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS).
“Repair works have already commenced, and PKNS has granted permission to clear the land to allow heavy machinery and equipment to be brought in,” he said.
