Taipei open: Three Malaysian pairs storm into semis

KUALA LUMPUR, June 23 — Three Malaysian representatives including men’s doubles pairs Ong Yew Sin – Teo Ee Yi and Man Wei Chong – Tee Kai Wun today advanced to the Taipei Open 2023 semi-finals.

Malaysia is guaranteed a spot in the men’s doubles final as top seeds Ong – Teo will lock horns with fifth seeds Man – Tee in the last four tomorrow at the Tian-Mu Arena, University of Taipei.

In today’s quarter-finals, Ong – Teo came from behind to dispose of Taiwan’s Lee Fang-Chih – Lee Fang-Jen 15 – 21, 21 – 19, 21 – 17.

On the other hand Man – Tee, who are the Malaysia Masters 2023 runners-up, took 32 minutes to stun fourth seeds Lee Jhe-Huei – Yang Po-Hsuan of Taiwan 21 – 19, 21 – 19.

National mixed doubles pair Chen Tang Jie – Toh Ee Wei also made it to the semi-finals by triumphing over home duo Yang Po-Hsuan – Hu Ling Fang 21 – 15, 21 – 14.

The fourth seeds will face another Taiwanese pair, Ye Hong Wei – Lee Chia Hsin, who prevented an all-Malaysian semi-final affair by ousting Hoo Pang Ron – Teoh Mei Xing 21 – 18, 21 – 14.
