Rubber Board introduces programme to boost smallholders’ income

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 21 — The Malaysian Rubber Board (MRB) has introduced the National Rubber Transformation Programme (Target) to increase the income of rubber smallholders.

In a statement, MRM said the Target programme aims to increase their income through shortening the supply chain and involving them in the production of value-added rubber materials and higher quality rubber.

“Through local rubber planters and operators, cooperatives as well as crepe rubber collection centres, discounts and profit of rubber traders can be returned to them through a higher purchase price.”

The rubber board said 221 planters have started to benefit from this initiative from the sales of rubber from June 13 to July 31, 2023, with RM4,500 distributed to them on Aug 17, 2023.

“With this incubator programme, the MRB hopes this can be a model and reference for agencies, companies and rubber buyer cooperatives for the production of value-added crepe rubber and to get a higher income.”
