MBPJ to expand two-hour parking limit to more locations soon

PETALING JAYA, Aug 28 — Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) intends to expand its two-hour parking limit policy to more areas in the district following positive feedback.

Its mayor Mohamad Azhan Md Amir said although there were initial pushbacks, the public has since welcomed the initiative currently implemented in Section 52, Section 14 and SS21, involving 495 designated parking bays outlined in orange.

“The feedback we have received is very positive. Initially, there were some grouses, even though we issued notices much earlier. However, many have now welcomed the initiative, particularly businesses.

“As such, MBPJ plans to increase the number of these parking bays, taking into consideration the high demand as well as Petaling Jaya having many commercial areas,” he said after MBPJ’s monthly meeting at its headquarters, here, today.

Azhan also reminded businesses not to repaint the parking bays in front of their respective premises to give false indication that the spots are reserved.

He said this is after the local authority received several complaints of such cases happening.

“Such action affects MBPJ’s income that they would otherwise pay to the council. Action can be taken under the Street, Drainage and Building Act 1974 for obstruction.”

MBPJ first introduced the two-hour parking limit system at the Section 52 commercial area on March 22, before expanding it to Section 14 and SS21 earlier this month.
