2025 to be Visit Selangor Year — Exco

By Zareef Muzammil

SHAH ALAM, Sept 13 — The state government is set to declare 2025 as Visit Selangor Year, in its effort to bolster the domestic tourism industry.

State executive councillor for tourism Ng Suee Lim said the decision was made during a meeting with Tourism Selangor yesterday.

“During the discussion, I conveyed my desire to empower the tourism sector and my targets for next year. A lot of matters were agreed, including the Visit Selangor Year 2025,” he told SelangorKini today.

Ng said Selangor will begin preparing as early as next year, ahead of Putrajaya’s own Visit Malaysia Year planned for 2025.

Apart from promoting the various unique tourism destinations in the state, there are also plans to introduce a two-day, three-night agrotourism-based travel package in Selangor’s northern region.

“This is to allow tourists to go on vacation from Kuala Selangor to Sabak Bernam. Media practitioners in Selangor will also be invited to provide their testimonies,” he said.

Many other items are currently being planned, including methods to promote state tourism, with an announcement expected to be made soon at a press conference.

Earlier this year, during the tabling of Budget 2023, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that 2025 will be a Visit Malaysia Year.

The government is targeting 23.5 million international tourist arrivals, with a projected income of RM76.8 billion, throughout the period.

To that end, Anwar said RM250 million will be allocated for tourism, with RM115 million to be made available as matching grants for industry players.
