SHAH ALAM, Oct 3 — Gombak MP Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari has vowed to ensure his parliamentary constituency remains a fortress of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (Keadilan) and the Reformasi movement.
In a post on social media site X following Gombak Keadilan annual general meeting yesterday, the Selangor Menteri Besar expressed his gratitude to all divisional members for their tireless effort in the past year.
Specifically, he credited them for their determination in facing various challenges together, including in the recent state election on August 12.
“God willing, Gombak Keadilan will continue to be steadfast, work hard, move one step at a time to serve the public and ensure the constituency remains a bastion for Reformasi and Keadilan,” he said last night.
Gombak has been the centre of national political attention since its former MP Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali defected from Keadilan during the infamous Sheraton Move in February 2020, resulting in the collapse of the then Pakatan Harapan (Harapan) federal government.
He later joined Perikatan Nasional outfit Bersatu and is now the state coalition chief.
In the 15th General Election in November last year, Amirudin was entrusted by his party Keadilan to take on his former mentor.
Unperturbed by the gargantuan task, the Selangor Harapan chairman rose to the challenge, winning the seat with a majority of 12,729 votes against Azmin and three others.
Yesterday’s annual meeting was the first since Amirudin’s victory in the Gombak federal constituency.
Gombak has been a Keadilan fortress since Azmin won the seat in 2008.
